This Week 2026 21
Long weekend this weekend because of some kind of moving holiday, the hang on easter thing, and next week is also just 4 days, so still enjoying may with it’s holidays, weather also suddenly changed from a coolish rainy thing to full summer with blasting sun, so I now get the pleasure of sunburns everywhere. Apart from that it’s a pretty standard week. Really.
Books
Finished off Absolute Zero by Nicola Claire, and it was a fun story, that I enjoyed reading, nothing deep or anything, but a fun story with fun characters that I enjoy, which is all I actually need.
I also started and finished Stray by Andrea Höst, and it’s a fun book, I think it is YA, or at least it feels like the author is holding back on some things that really kind of wanted to get on the page, we’ll have to see in the continuing books in the series though. It was a fun adventure book, that sagged a bit in the middle where things kind of felt like they didn’t move, but it was enjoyable all in all, looking foreward to going on to the next one.
At last I started Alien Racer by J.S. Morin and this one is like I expected from the rest of the series which is something I enjoy, another cockameme scheme where the “heroes” are stumbling through the story. It’s fun and entertaining though, so far at least, and I wonder how they will land on their feet this time.
Games
Most of my gaming time this week as well has been going into Bravely Default II I’m still having a blast with it, it feels like it will go on for a while still though, currently racing towards the end of chapter 4 if I remember correctly, and loads of stuff has happened, saved some kingdoms from different threats, and snuck into a city where a building turned into an airship that we jumped onto, we have been exploring that, and something is about to happen again I think. It’s still a really enjoyable game, and I think I’m still leveling myself up enough that things don’t get too brutal when I get to a boss, at least so far. There are still some side quests that I don’t have a chance of doing though, since when I get to the creatures they want me to fight they one-shot my whole team, but well I guess they are for later when I have gotten some more level ups, it seems like I have gotten most of the equipment already though, as it seems like I’ve more or less filled up the lore books with weapons, unless they are hiding some away there, it seems I have the stuff that I will get to have, mostly. The story is still wholesome, and the interludes and everything are really enjoyable as I slowly make my way through the world, and slaughter nearly every creature I meet on the way.
On friday I had another a bit scary time with Rift of the Necrodancer it’s a really enjoyable rhythm game, and the hours just melted away, and in a time skip I just lost quite a few of hours to it. I get so in the zone playing this one that it’s kind of scary, charts are really well done, and as you get more used to reading the kind of different monsters I can intuit what the rhythms are going to be better, not as much as is needed for the hardest hard-mode songs, but better, it’s fun to have a rhythm game where the hard levels are actually hard, now the insane ones, I don’t have a chance on them yet.
Media
Newpipe was struggling a bit again this week, since youtube was changing stuff around again, but they had a fix out reasonably quickly enough, I was watching some different stuff, and found one new channel that I have enjoyed watching so far from a british guy, Cam Kirkham, I do enjoy his reaction stuff, especially because he feels like a nice bloke, and it’s another place to look for enjoyable stuff that isn’t AI-slop which more and more ends up being the thing that I end up with if I just search for random videos on youtube.
Also got some inroads on my podcasting queue, and I’m starting to make an in-roads on my backlog of the first into the aether episodes before I started listening, in these episodes they were bringing up some old memories, especially of the Idle thumbs podcast, which is one that I loved listening to before they quit, it still is close to being one of my favourite podcasts of all time, and it kind of makes sense that two of the ones that I’m enjoying the most around now, into the aether, and videogame podtimism, both seems to have taken some inspiration from them.
