Sotolf's thoughts and oddities

This Week 2026 41

A tired week again, I don’t know, it feels like I’ve been kind of self sabotaging for a while, I find it hard to find sleep, there are always things I feel I want to do, read a bit longer, and it leads to me going to sleep too late, or keep on reading too late. I guess I will get it solved some time, it’s just an annoying process to go through, I think it was similar last year as well, so it might be one of those things that comes with the Autumn.

Books

I’ve been reading a bit less this week, finished off Straik the next Corsair brother book by Ruby Dixon, which was pretty fun, I enjoy these ones, they are often quite a lot of slice of life stuff, and some smut. It’s fun and light books, and it matches my tired mind as of late pretty well.

I also read the first few chapters of Mathiras which is the next one in the series, this one and then one more, and this series is done. It feels like that’s about the time that it will manage to feel reasonably fresh. And then it’s hunting for something new to read again.

Games

Gaming wise I’ve been playing quite a bit of MegaMan Zero 1 most of the time banging my head against the wall trying to beat a boss, 90% of the game is struggling to learn the patterns of a boss. It’s pretty fun though, but towards the end of the week I was getting a bit tired of it, and put it aside. I will for sure come back to it, but when I’m more up for masochistically torturing myself to get it right. It’s good though, and it’s really quite impressive for a GBA game, with big sprites and a lot of animation. My hat off to the people doing this back in the day without the extra checkpoints though, then a hard game would be even harder.

I felt like I need some comfort gaming, so I have been falling back into Etrian Oddyssey this time the first game, it’s just a nice autumn game I think, it’s nice just making another expedition, get a bit farther, a bit stronger, and explore a bit more, return get some new stuff, and rinse and repeat. It’s a comfortable loop.

There is still Ender Magnolia waiting for me as well, I just focused more on Megaman for this week, before falling into the comfort food hole.

I also did play a bit of Order of the Sinking Star which is a really nice puzzle game, from what I’ve read it’s huge, and it seems like it’s basically quite a few different variations on sokoban, first segregated into mechanics from 4 earlier full games, that then intertwine, I’ve only played with one, where you have a warrior that pushes blocks, a ranger that drags them, and a wizard that exchanges themself with a block. And already so far there are quite a lot of variation in how the puzzles play, some hard, some easier, there are quite a lot introduced, and it feels like it gets the new things in with a really nice curve that makes things not feel stale. So far it’s been quite a lot of fun, but at times quite mentally taxing, this is more of a weekend game when I have some brain juice left I think.

Misc

I kind of feel like I’ve done less this week, less reading, less playing games, and still time has passed, I don’t know if it’s just me being in a weird mood. I still do things all the time, it just disappears so quickly, and it happened quite quick, so I guess it just hangs together with the overall restlessness that I’ve been feeling, and will get back to normal once I get out of this weird pattern I find myself in.

Over the weekend I also started thinking about writing something, I have some characters that kind of feels sticky, it’s interesting to think about what they would do. Interact and so on. I kind of have some scenes playing, and it’s fun to think about how they would get there, come up with explanations for things about them that I just thought would look good. A bit of the place, it’s all vague and fractured, but it keeps on coming into my mind to think about, so I’m thinking of maybe writing it down more as a story, and see, I’m horrible at writing, especially fiction, but the only way to get better is normally just to stop worrying and actually do it. It’s not like I have to share it with anyone, it’s just for myself, so yeah, no, it’s been on my mind a lot the last days. So better probably to do something about it. As normal it might be just a phase, another hobby that I might just taste, and then fall out of, but it’s nice to have something new. Maybe it’s something that will stick, maybe not, but it’s fun exploring no matter what.

And that’s it, it kind of feels like I did so little, had so little to tell, but some weeks just are like that, they kind of get lost in the fog of routine, and it gets difficult to pick out one thing or other that feels worth sharing.
