This Week 2026 42
This has been a weird week, I think because I’ve been kind of interested in doing something new that I haven’t before. I’ve been kind of going on black hole research missions trying to figure out how to do some writing, since it’s been in my head for a while now, I got some characters and a bare skeleton of something in my head. And like I usually do spent way more time on just doing research than actually doing anything. But I have two lore sheets written up, and about 1000 words written down in an opening so far, so it’s better than nothing. Over my evenings I’ve been doing some practice just writing scenes and try to get something I don’t feel too embarrased over when I read them back, and then deleting them again.
It has got on the cost of other things I normally do in my evening though, especially my reading and sleep, which suffered a bit this week. I will have to watch it a bit more the next one, to make sure that I’m not wrecking myself just because I found somethign that’s interesting to me.
Books
I’ve been not that great on getting reading done this week, only reading around 300 pages or so, I’m still reading Mathiras by Ruby Dixon, I really need to get back into the flow of reading again and not fall off, just need to keep focus up and pace myself with other stuff, so that I destroy the routines that I’ve set up. But I realised it in the weekend, so I can do better this week.
Games
I did try to play a bit of the Order of the sinking stars but it needed too much brain juice, and I was so tired in my head that I didn’t really manage, or have the patience for it, the story is also utter dogshit, so I think that’s something to just ignore, and focus on the puzzles. Which I wasn’t up to that day.
Other than that I was playing a bit more Ender Magnolia: Bloom of the mist and had a lot of fun with it, it’s a fun Metroidvania, and it just is enjoyable exploring around fighting some bosses and stuff, it seemed a bit tuned down in difficulty from the first game in the series, and I just needs around 5 tries for each boss, which is better than in the other one, I really need to get back to the first game as well some time, but for now I’m having fun with this.
Most of my gaming time was focusing on Rift of the Necrodancer Which is still so much fun for me, I really sink down in this really wonderful sense of flow and hyperfocus playing this game, and it’s really nice feeling that each time I play some songs I do a little bit better than the last time, that I’m able to deal with things that didn’t work the last time around. The hit of dopamine when my fingers execute something that my mind otherwise hadn’t quite parsed is just really blissful. It’s a really great way to lose hours of time and feel great. It’s really dangerous if I want to do something else with my time though, as it’s a black hole that is really difficult to tear myself away from.
Other
Other than that it’s mostly been focusing on writing and thinking about it, not that it shows too much, not that I have anything to show for it, other than a mix between paper in my wastebasket or in the aether somewhere. I’m still utter shit at it, and it’s not good, but I have fun, and so far it’s been a fun deep dive, I will see, hopefully get some more actual work done on it. And I’ll see, I might even share some of it once I’m a bit less embarrased about it. Probably not many will be interested in reading it anyway, so I shouldn’t be too worried about it. It’s just always a bit hard to share something you’re not proud of, or pretty sure that it’s not great, but I think sharing something like that is imporant anyway so that people can see that shit writing exists.
I’ll hope that my week will be a bit less one tracked this week, and that I will split out my time more wisely, so that I don’t burn out on something that is interesting for me. At least so long as I am aware of it, it should be something easier to keep in mind.
